Going Back to the Womb
Video Performance Series, 2020
Going Back to the Womb is a section dedicated to my mother. After years of living apart, the quarantine brought us together. We used this time to feel closer than ever, make art, and collaborate. This series of video performances is the result of that time together.
Vientre / Womb
I enter my mom’s bedroom. I’m hungry. I lean towards her belly to ask her for food. It seemed like an instinct despite my age. I lie there for a few minutes and say: Mom, it is satisfying to lie on your stomach. The feel of your breath brings me peace.
“Womb” is the feeling of going back to her uterus. The sensation of matching our breathing and immersing ourselves in its tranquility...
When the Flowers Became so Strong that They Bore the Distance
Mother and child, two bodies together since childbirth. However, when the time comes, it is time for a farewell. It is that exact moment when the child recognizes their mother’s strength on themself. It is an extreme strength that she hides with tenderness. A mother represents a spiritual and physical anchor, somehow. Even though she lets you leave, a part of you stays with her.
The Dance of the Migrating Hands
This piece comes from a conversation that we are not able to listen to between Alicia and her mother. You can only see their hands moving to the rhythm of the music. Music that hides the heavyhearted news that Alicia has to leave during the pandemic.
